"The weeks immediately following the tragedy brought astonishing response. Evidence quickly accumulated that the drama on the Curaray was shaking the Christian Church back in the United States as it had not been shaken in a generation."

Condensed article in Reader's Digest magazine. Paper, 5-1/4" x 7-1/2", 20 pages. “Through Gates of Splendor” by Abe C. Van Der Puy of the World Radio Missionary Fellowship, that appeared in the August 1956 issue of the magazine. The article is called a condensation from a forthcoming book by Van Der Puy, telling the story of the men’s lives and faith, their deaths, and the impact of their deaths. (This article was actually completely rewritten by Digest editor Clarence Hall, although retaining Van Der Puy’s name.) Eventually, Van Der Puy was unable to write the book and Elisabeth Elliot was asked to take over the task. From BGC Archives, Collection 657, Box 1, Folder 16.
